Here's your sign

Bill Engvall is a comedian who is best known for telling jokes about stupid people. He believes that they should wear signs that say "I'm stupid." Here is an example of a here's your sign joke:

Bill: "Before my wife and I moved from Texas to California our house was full of boxes and there was a U-haul truck in our driveway. My friend comes over and asks me a question.

Friend: "Hey you moving?"

Bill: "Nope. We just pack our stuff up once or twice a week just to see how many boxes it would take. Here's your sign."

Well I had a here's your sign moment happen to me when I was going through the In-n-out drive thru. I drove up to the menu/monitor thing and placed my order (hamburger, french fries, and a water). The worker repeats my order correctly, gives me the total cost of the meal, and tells me to pull up to the first window.

I drive up to the first window and the worker takes my credit card to swipe. Keep in mind...I am in the DRIVE THRU. As she swipes the card she asks "will this be for here or to go?"

Here's your sign.

Easter

Easter Sunday this year was quite unique. Nathan spent Easter in Iowa with some friends, and Hannah and I spent the Easter holiday with my family in California.

Here is Hannah in her first Easter dress that she wore to church (I forgot to pack her shoes and hair bows).

After church my parents, Hannah and I drove down to Encinitas and met up with my sister Katherine and her boyfriend Wes. Check out their Harley Davidson bikes (I still can't believe that my sister drives a motorcycle).

We found an area overlooking the beach and had a wonderful picnic lunch. In all the years I lived in California I would have never imagined spending an Easter Sunday with a picnic overlooking the beach. But we all enjoyed it and I would do it again in a heart beat.

We were entertained by a few surfers who caught some waves.

We also gave a few critters some of our Easter food.

But the best part was watching the pelicans that kept flying by.

Here are a few more shots of the day.

As much as we missed Nathan, it was nice to spend some time with my family.

Blowout at Kohls

You would think that the title to this post would indicate that there is a huge blowout sale at Kohl's. WRONG! It refers to a DIAPER blowout at Kohl's. Here's the story:

It actually started last night. As I was putting Hannah in her car seat to head to my cousin's bridal shower, I said to my mom "Hannah has not pooped once today!" My mom raised her eyebrows and said "well when she does poop it will probably be a big blowout." Nevertheless we went out the door and headed up to Chino Hills for the shower. Hannah was a GREAT baby at the shower. She just sat in her car seat and was an angel, though she was very skeptical with all the people and loud noises.

After about an hour of games, she started to get a little fussy. No problem. It's been a few hours since she last ate so she is probably hungry. I grabbed her bottle and set it to the side. As I pulled her out of the car seat I noticed that her backside was covered in poop. It was a blowout indeed! So I took her in the other room to change her diaper and clean her up. I always carry a spare outfit with me because of situations like this. Later that night when Hannah was sleeping I started a load of wash so the clothes could soak overnight.

The next day (today): I fed Hannah when she woke up and then got her dressed for the day. About an hour later as I get out of the shower my mom brings Hannah to me and says that she feels wet. So I changed her diaper and her outfit as she had just peed through the diaper. I then put her in outfit #2 which she spit ups on within a few minutes of wearing it. My reaction--wipe it up and deal with it. She's only been up for 2 hours and there is no way I'm putting a third outfit on.

A few hours later I dropped my mom off at work and decided that I was going to head to Kohl's and do more birthday shopping. I was waiting at a stoplight when I heard Hannah make her deposit in her diaper. I thought to myself "Great! I will be willing to bet that she has a huge blowout."

I walk into Kohl's and head straight to the restroom. Sure enough she had a blowout and it was so bad that it ended up seeping onto her car seat. So I take her clothes off and wipe her and her car seat down with baby wipes. Then it hit me--Hannah's spare outfit is still in the washing machine. I have no clothes to put her in and no blanket to wrap around her! After putting a fresh diaper on I bundled her up with the two burp cloths that I had on hand and put my nursing cover over those (it was slightly chilly out side), and walked out of Kohl's. I didn't even get to shop.

Below are the shots of the layers I wrapped her in:

The atypical birthday

My birthday this year was very different. It wasn't bad or anything, it was just not your usual birthday. Plus, it doesn't help that it landed on a Monday. Here is how it went:

8:45 am--woke up to Nathan and Hannah singing me Happy Birthday which was so precious. Nathan let me sleep in! THANK YOU HONEY! That was such a great gift.

8:50 am--feed Hannah and get her dressed for the day.

9:20 am--Start a load of laundry, go into the kitchen to unload the dishwasher and make breakfast for Nathan and I while Nathan vacuums (thanks honey for another great gift--really).

10:00 am--run to the store to grab a few items.

10:40 am--put dinner ingredients together so that I can just toss it in the oven later.

11:00 am--Feed Hannah and put her down for a nap.

11:10 am--Start 2nd load of laundry.

11:15 am--Work out.

12:30 pm--Feed Hannah.

12:40 pm--Start 3rd load of laundry, shower, and put myself together while I talk on the phone
with my sister Emily.

1:40 pm--Put dinner in the oven (it needed to bake for 3 hours).

2:00 pm--Hannah takes yet another nap.

2:05 pm--Eat lunch while working on computer.

3:00 pm--Feed Hannah.

3:15 pm--Put Hannah in Baby Bjorn and go for a walk.
3:40 pm--Welcome Nathan home from work, open birthday cards that I received in the mail
(thanks to everyone).

3:55 pm--Hannah goes down for another nap.

4:00 pm--Finish preparing dinner (we have to eat early because Nathan teaches a class on
Monday nights at 6:00 pm).

4:50 pm--Dinner is ready just as Hannah wakes up (great timing...I know). I look forward to the day when I can eat a meal with no interruptions.

5:05 pm--After inhaling my food I feed Hannah.

5:30 pm--Take over dish duty and kiss Nathan good-bye as he leaves for his night class.

5:45 pm--Play with Hannah, pick up around the house, put the 3 loads of laundry away, and get Hannah ready for bed.

7:10 pm--Feed Hannah for the final time.

7:35 pm--Sit in a nice relaxing bath and read my scriptures.

8: 30 pm--Write in my journal, greet Nathan as he comes home, and work on my church calling.

9:50 pm--Talk on the phone to one of my best friends from high school.

11:00 pm--Talked with Nathan, pumped, said prayers, read scriptures as a couple.

11:40 pm--BED.

But this here is the best gift of all: a beautiful, healthy, and happy baby who just smiles at me all day long (unless she's having a melt down).

Nauvoo weekend

On Friday we headed down to Nauvoo and stayed the night. I went to the temple on Friday night, and Nathan went on Saturday morning. It was so nice to attend the temple and be in the House of the Lord.

On Saturday, after Nathan had returned from the temple we took a few pictures outside and did some sight seeing as it was such a beautiful day. Hannah was such a great traveler and didn't fuss at all during the car rides!

After we got back from Nauvoo, Hannah helped me prepare dinner. She LOVES to just sit and watch me move all around the kitchen.

After dinner, she and Nathan hit the books before she headed to bed.

Conference wrap up

Hymn results:

Rachel: 23% -- HORRIBLE!
Nathan: 36% -- Better than Rachel's!

Neither one of us did well. Nevertheless, we LOVED conference. The talks were wonderful and the choirs sang beautifully. It was a fantastic weekend and we hate to see it go. I'm already looking forward to the next conference in October.

And what would a blog post be without pictures?

Here is a picture of Hannah and Nathan between sessions of conference on Saturday. Since the weather was so nice outside we decided to take a walk.

And here is Hannah watching President Monson give his closing remarks.
